they always like to make the fmc such basic bitches appearance wise
exaaaactly. the female antagonists are usually completely awful like 99% of the time, but their face cards will never decline
I think it's also because heavy makeup is considered "too much" or "cheap-looking" in a lot of East Asia. So evil characters sometimes have much more makeup and give the impression of bigger lips.
it's to give the "pure" vs "seductress" vibe i guess... in another story i read the author of the story regrets giving the og!villainess (who is now the MC) a voluptuous body because the og!female lead doesn't stand out as much physically and can't be as sexy as her
And most of the time these characters with lips are mature/want to appear mature, because having babyface is more desirable, and it creeps me out sometimes ngl (even her aunt rarely is being drawn with full lips).

have y’all ever noticed that lips are a sign of evil in most shoujos?? like i've noticed that most villainesses/female antagonists in shoujos always have the fullest lips. meanwhile the fmc is most always lipless i need authors to start distributing lips equally throughout their characters. standing next to the female antagonist/villainess, the fmc characters usually give this to me: o_o
