Either that or she doesn’t want to believe the fl is just a naturally good person who is also smart and sensitive. She’s pushing and pushing to see if the fl’s “true personality” will come out.
That's why I think she finds her threatening. Because in Helen's mind someone like Wil cannot exist as a good person. Helen being sarcastic and passive aggressive clearly crosses the boundary of just mere testing. It almost seems like she's jealous. She's trying to find flaws so Helen doesn't lose power in the household.
At first I didn't mind Helen's defensive nature because I understood her position. Of course, she would be cautious of this new woman who entered her household. But now I feel like she's just more angry because Wil turned out to be a good person. Not only she is kind but also very smart so I feel Helen finds her threatening now. Helen can not control Wil and everyone naturally follows Wil who is a born leader. Deep down Helen knows that Wil might become more powerful than her. So that's why I think she's hostile towards her.
