It has a lott of time, so many characters haven't even been introduced yet, our boy runs away with his spore at one point lol
He already knows, he's always known. Nothing that the little mushroom has done has actually convinced him, he acts too odd, even untrained people, like Poet, notice it. I think he felt an attraction to the little mushroom and didn't want to kill him so took him for the DNA test hoping that he was human. He never really buys it though, that's why he teases him sometimes, he knows little mushroom won't react the way a human would and doesn't understand human interactions well. Like when he offered to share his tooth brush. But Lu Feng doesn't know about the spore, that happens later. When the people in the light house start to study it because it doesn't mutate or change at all so they think it might help humans survive, they get Lu Feng to help because it likes him. They have it in a nutrient tank and it always moves toward him. The little mushroom sees it on the news and is annoyed that it likes Lu Feng. When he and Lu Feng are in a room with it, it stays near Lu Feng instead of coming to him. A side note, Mushroom spore are clones of the parent mushroom, they share DNA and some research indicates they share knowledge.
So, what form does the spore take? Like, a child?
No, it just a little floating bundle of mycelium in a nutrient solution.

Omg I had a feeling that the spore was going to be a big part of the plot because when the little mushroom got bit by the bug he didn’t mutate like others so I assumed they could use his spore to help humans stop changing
