And before you come at me, I've read thousands of Chinese novels over the years, across almost all genres starting from when I was 14 years old and I have loved most of the plot heavy minimum romance novels that I've read. I'm not saying tht MXTX is a bad author (nope, she's amazing) or tht the couple is toxic but it was not my jam.

I hate Mary Sue/self righteous/boring goodie two shoes characters because they always seems so fake.
I honestly could not believe HC was waiting 200 hundred years for someone like the MC. The Mc was so boring and he acted like a fake goodie two shoes. How was he suppose to be this pure heart person when he hanging around a killer/ghost king. (￣∇￣")HC is like a ghost king so why would he like someone like the MC? It felt very one side where it felt like the MC didn't like HC like that. At least HC is who he is and he doesn't try to act like a saint. I didn't understand how the MC helped HC when he was a kid but I didn't understand how that develop into........love. Why did he love him?? It felt like the author made the MC help weak kids to make people like him/ feel sorry for him because his personally was so boring. It's like she did everything to make people feel sorry for the MC to make people care for him instead of giving he an engaging personality. I liked his green eyes cousin better because his cousin was like the MC tries to act like this pure hearted person but he really not. That how I felt about his character. I just read the story for HC because if it was not for him then........ (⊙…⊙ )

I can love Mary Sue charas IF they're done right. I love HC and WWX bc they hv kick ass personalities and I love LWJ despite the fact tht he doesn't bc he treats ppl the way they treat him. He doesn't go out of of his way to be kind if they're treating him like garbage. I just could not believe how someone could be treated the way MC was by everyone he cared ab and not rip everyone's hair out. Like he didn't even do anything wrong and yet they treated him like cow dung and HE himself didn't wanna drink their blood as soup?? I also think tht standing next to someone like HC, and not being absolutely batshit crazy ab them made me dislike him more?? Like most of the Mary Sue charas tht I read r pretty insane ab their counterparts early on or middle of the story + this obsession is v obvi to readers (i.e. Woowon in Pizza Delivery Man) and YESSS u should be bc look at their personality?? If you get the chance to be w such a cool ass person you should be on your knees but the love shown in Heaven Official's Blessing just seemed so one-sided?? I felt like HC was bringing all the energy and MC was giving nothing.

I read the story back during the pandemic then the anime I watched when it came out on Netflix (manhua when it first came out as well) so it's been a while but all I rmr is the pure frustration I felt w the main chara. Very disappointed bc MXTX is one of my faves authors but oh well, I guess not everything is for everyone

Yes! At one point I wanted HC to be with someone else with more personality also it did not even seem like MC even liked him. Hc needs to be with someone else. I feel like would have liked the story better then if that happened.

On that note, if you wanna read a Chinese novel with no Mary Sues in sight and ukes who embrace their evil nature, try Married Thrice to a Salted Fish. I read it recently and it's peak. Like the bottom is one of the best charas I've read and top is second or in the same position + their love is super mutual, they both would go to hell then torture everyone there for each other. And it's super consensual like its so good I almost cried tears of joy after reading it. My only qualm is tht the first arc is a bit slow but that's only bc we're learning the MC and ML's true characters and how cunning they are. It's rlly rlly good bro

There it is! My biggest issue with the story. It just took me a while to figure it out. I don't like when the love doesn't seem mutual to me as a reader. I need BOTH charas to be clawing at each other by the end of the story. As someone who loves with their entire heart and then some, I just can't hv either character being hands off or even slightly less feeling. Maybe I would've liked the story more if MC seemed like he was more into HC, like Wei Wuxian (from Mo Dao Zu Shi, MXTX's other work) was p obsessed with LWJ from when they were 15 then when they were older he still loved to not give LWJ a single moment of peace and finally by the end of the story, he was absolutely obsessed w LWJ like tht confession I really did try to like Heaven Official's Blessing simply for MXTX but I just couldn't.

tbh its refreshing to see criticisms of this story bc all i ever see is constant glaze

and ppl in this thread talking about you probably don't like it bc it's not all about romance when the main talking point of this story from fans is how the ml waited for the mc's bland ass for 800 years and how utterly devoted the ml is

Ppl try to tell me don't finish it for the couple, do it for the drama but how the hell am I supposed to ignore the main couple??? They're right in my face?? It is pretty funny tht ppl keep bringing the 'not about romance' point up over and over again, when a good portion of the criticism of Heaven's Official Blessings come from ppl who read Chinese novels with little to no romance on a daily basis and whenever they try to rec this book to you it's all 'but HC loves him sm, look how devoted he is '

Well IT IS A ONE SIDED actually I mean HC fell in love with MC when MC saved him when his a child , MC only remember the child he saved but he wasn't in love with him and he only knows HC from the rumors but haven't met him until HC showed up and help MC.. I think MC will only fall in love to HC as the story goes

Yea I feel like the prob with a LOT of Chinese novels is the ML giving a lotta and the MC just kinda being like yea you're ok ig?? Which is so weird to me bc if I'm crazy devoted to you, even if you don't show ur affection in a conventional way (i.e. verbal) u should still be just as crazily devoted in a different way (i.e. going to the ends of the ocean to get me smth I like). Some of these MLs be doing the absolute most and the MC doesn't even rlly verbally tell them they love them just as much??

He does but the energy just isn't there. I get where you're coming from and I would totally agree if by the end of the story (when HC is an adult), mc was just as crazy (or showed just as much love) for HC as HC is for him. I'm sorry but that's just not the case, at least from the readers pov yk. I read the end of the story and my entire reaction w the relationship dynamics by the end was just??? Ok but that's ab it. This could be bc by the time I read Heaven Official's Blessing I'd already read quite a few Chinese novels and the book/mc just wasn't tht special. I'm not saying it's a bad story but the MC pmo

Yeah I feel like my expectation were so high for this because of the hype that it was a major let down. Plus when I read comments about the story most people say it is their first bl novel which means they don't know any of good bl novels. Yeah it seems like HC does everything for the mc but mc does nothing for HC. The ml burned down HC building and was fighting him in order to make him stop. It's like the mc does anything and HC just magically forgives him. I don't know I just didn't get this great love between them....it felt very one sided. The mc didn't seem like he would give up his life/job for HC while HC would give up everything for the mc.Thats not love.

The concept isn't really even unique  there are a number of danmei and straight stories with that approach as well ( I will wait for you till the end of time vibes).(￣∇￣") I can't read through allat for that revelation dawggg, unlike with 2ha, Chuwanning also has a savior complex, but his strict attitude balances it out, he will let you know he doesn't like you and will whip you up like he did to that one commoner.

To clarify, I didn't read the beginning replies tht OP left to the other ppl. Saying that Chinese names r too confusing, plot dynamics r too heavy, there r too many charas lacks critical thinking and nuance when critiquing Chinese novels. Some of the most plot and character heavy novels are Chinese and they are amazing + what I grew up on (I ate and breathed them). It's extremely disturbing to call Chinese names too confusing like lbfr every country has confusing names (ie. I dare you read Eastern European bl novels). I didn't like the novel bc I felt tht the love wasn't mutually reciprocated. I sometimes forget tht trolling exists bc I don't come across ppl like this irl or on the spaces I usually reside in but I apologize to the original ppl who were replying bc it seems tht this person wasn't initially critiquing the MC or the relationship dynamics but rather making nonsensical replies to get a reaction (why would you read a plot heavy Chinese novel if you find their names confusing, too many charas or you don't like plot heavy novels). I personally didn't like this book (bc MC was not my taste + relationship) but Chinese novels remain one of my favorite forms of literature and I absolutely love MXTX.
