I was waiting on the romance and it a lot of characters and sometimes it confusing with so many characters. I would just be like who are these people. Something were not really explained right away so it confusing.
I think I did not feel empathic nor I've seen the importance of their "mission" ? or maybe it's a cultural barrier that's why I couldn't pick up the references used. I love the animation and soundtrack though

No it’s a slow burn. It doesn’t focus on romance. Maybe that’s why you don’t really like it also heaven officials blessing was super popular before it even got a Manhua so it’s not popular because of the art

You should try SVSSS ( it has a shorter number of chapters) it's from the same author , it's humorous but you'll probably end up confused with the names as well, and the terms used in cultivation, honorifics and might need to re-read every paragraph. You'll never know, maybe after reading SVSSS you'll appreciate TGCF ( I did not)
