My opinion is thar he tests his love by trying to kill him and finding out he isn't willing to, while he doesn't blink to kill others.
This is how he makes sure it's his mate and his love increase at the same time.
I'm thinking since he's Yanu, probably his murderous intent equates to love for Eyra. Haha. Not really crazy, when his rapport keeps upping when they're fighting.
If ever he feels love for Eyra, that might mean the opposite.
