I thought so too!! and I've come to realize some details.
Like from ch9 it seems that OGmugo was a wise(?)man forced to become a god (might add when jerk mugo said old mugo wanted to take an examination for a scholar/studies) and delevops his other personalities to deal with the struggle. (Like the oldMugo being himself being a scholar, MonsterMugo being his child self being forced to some degree to become and adult, and then JerkMugo being the one taking care of the difficulties)
Also, OGJaeheon seem to be in servants' clothes (maybe he was tasked to take care of him? as in to not escape or smth?. maybe by the head family.) Thats why when he said "indeed" to take revenge on those who put him there, he ask for a sacrifice for the kang family, without knowing the loophole of those sacrifices being from a branch of the kang family.
Also I think Mugo is "forced" to bless the Kang family bc he became a god bc of them, but him asking for a sacrifices bc "is needed" is his form of revenge?

Ik im gonna cry when their past life story is revealed. Jaeheon is probably mugo's lover who was sacrificed by the people and since then mugo's been taking in sacrifices in order to punish the people who did this to his lover for generations now until jaeheon finally got to be reborn again and meet mugo again. Maybe the head family thats mean sending these sacrifices are the descendants of the people who killed jaeheon in the past and thats why sacrifices are chosing specifically from their and their branch families.
