Right. It's not like he conceived himself. The least the father could do is take complete responsibility and say so himself.
Essentially, just like most traditions and cultural norms, it's just bullshit.
But the reason the kids are half bloods and illegitimate is usually because their mother is the one tainting the blodd. The father/patriarch is never at fault. Even in cases of rape. It's the woman's fault always. (I don't agree with this just explaining the reasoning)
So basically because his mother didn't marry his dad and because she's not froma good family and (i can barely remeber but probably a prostitute or a maid or something) the child's blood is automatically tainted.

Yeah, it's crazy, but that's how these stories go. I just hope no one truely thinks like that in real life, but there are always some.
I never understood how being an illegitimate child made a person a half-blood. That term comes up quite often in this genre. He is their half brother/sibling , but it's not like he has less of their father's blood. I have also seen stories where all of the kids are born to different mothers/wives, yet they still call the illegitimate children half bloods. It doesn't matter if their mothers (or fathers in certain stories) are nobles, illegitimate children still get called half bloods. I'm confused. Half as opposed to what? Pure? Blue? Most of the illegitimate children in this genre still have heir and successor rights. The exact same rights as their legitimate-born siblings. What do people mean when they say the illegitimate children need to be shown their place? The heir is being chosen by the father based on ability and capability. Everyone has to prove themselves. Also, shouldn't the fathers be offended? The children that they decided to have get called half bloods and dirty blood, yet the noble and proud fathers stay silent and think of it as a test? Be foreal.
Maybe half blood is the closest translated equivalent in English.
