Honestly it’s kinda reassuring to see the chorus of “yikes” in the comments after the whole baby thing lol. Definitely could see it coming, but here I was naively believing they would still do it less creepily than this. I was willing to buy that there would be significant age gaps among mates in this world because there are those blessed with extremely long life and those with normalish lifespans. Fil’s already how many hundred years old? Somewhat inevitable that he’d end up with a mate much much much younger than him.
But to show up right when his mate has JUST been born?? And the parents have to BEG to keep the baby at least until it’s of age?? So much yikes…
To me the only way to mitigate the inherent creepiness of Twilight style baby imprinting is if the adult actually AVOIDS the kid fully until it grows up! Like not even a little interaction, stay the fuck over THERE while the kid’s over HERE, and fucking WAIT. It’s too much room for extremely weird-at-best power dynamics otherwise…
Should’ve figured, already Fil as a character bothered me. That cliffhanger of him ~”healing”~ the MC which immediately was spun into a benign, no no it just LOOKS bad but actually he’s helping and just HAS to do it this way… and no one’s allowed to know or see bc reasons… it was just creepy especially since the MC is a longtime CSA survivor. :/ Sus shit from early on. Sigh.
