You should start rereading at Ch 23 after Heonjae and Myeongi-IL have sex for the first time. We see Myeong-IL read a bit about Jingi and Heonjae's criminal record. At that point we didn't know who the victim was then we get a backstory about Heonjae's childhood about his interactions with his teacher and so on and so forth.
im pretty sure the teacher was using him and pressured him into doing track and if he didnt succeed hed punish(??) him causing psychological abuse + the torment and bully from his classmates most likely drove him off edge into the mental breakdown their talking ab
