It's mostly between the lines and some are explicitly mentioned. Such as, he was thrown away by the kidnappers since his dad won't respond. There he found wolves and started living with them. There's even a scene where he is calling to his Wolf Pack Mom.
Also, again there should be no continuation to his mom scene, since it's just recollection from Potato's POV. And he can only remember so much, being a potato and all.
