I don't think the blame should be put on the fans. If the author didn't do it in the first place, no one will even think of it like that. Even if a very small majority saw baby potato ? And wanted to ship him with his dad, there was no rhyme or reason for the author to actually do it. The author already HINTED it - when they were all wolves/dogs like no human form. It continued to the Human Narration too. I re-read it all over again, and saw multiple parallels to Dog/Wolf form vs Adult Potato sussy scenes
