As far as I remember, san was supposed to die while fighting that hwan(?) ghost. But eunchae asked yama to give him life again. Yama agreed with some conditions, them being san would forget all of his past life.

San lost some of his memories after fighting Hwan because Hwan can take memories from people. San only lost his memories of Eunjae, he remembers everything else. The same thing happened when Yoon-wi got into contact with Hwan & lost all memories of Geumsun. San was reincarnated as a human (I don’t know why), so he lost his goblin powers. San chose to be reincarnated into the same body & continue the life he had before he died, so his age didn’t change. (chapter 110 mentions most of this btw)

If I remember specifically it’s becau Hwan take the memories that is one’s driving/will to live/fight. That’s why 704’s memories of Geumson are lost and so are San’s memories of Eunjae. It’s both sweet and sad.
Also San was never truly a goblin, he was always a human they HID as a goblin. His power wasn’t really is so he just went back to his normal state.
