
Yes it’s true depression isn’t a choice and she’s sympathetic for it, but no one should be obligated to get their own mental health ruined trying to fix another. Especially a child, even worse your own child. It’s why therapists are generally the best people to go to for mental treatment.
Also maybe I’m overthinking, but replying how you did to a person with real life experience in parenting their parent is kinda messed up?? If you’re going to have sympathy for the parent, please have sympathy for the child.

I can’t say if it is parentification or not because I’ve fortunately never been put into this situation. But what I can say is it’s just a circumstance that sucks all around. Realistically there was little they could do and wouldn’t afford therapy- plus she could’ve been much worse. Of course she wouldn’t be the perfect parent when she’s alone and has depression, but if someone relates to Woowon, they should be valid for not wanting to sympathize with her.

I can't have sympathy for the mother knowing how it feels to gentle parent your own parent as a teen
