i think you're really underestimating the cultural impact here. moving in with a significant other is not something that's encouraged before the wedding even with a straight couple, she wouldn't just be okay w her son moving in with his boyfriend she's never even met. imo just an asian thing, it isn't meant to be "manipulative" and stuff. he's the youngest of the family so naturally they're all more protective of him, I think your assessment of his family might be a bit harsh
I am sure that you are right and it is a cultural thing that just reads very upsetting to those outside of that culture. I'm from Scandinavia so I am as far as way from Korea as you can come, so for me it reads very upsetting and it makes me uncomfortable to read because if people acted that way here it would be extremely toxic and messed up.

I dont really like his family. I have seen people treat people with severe mental handicaps more like adults then what they are doing. They are acting like he is a child who can't join the adults in deciding. His mom also seem very manipulating in the way mc is saying he can't move out, I like to remind everyone that he is an adult with a job, but his mom will not allow it and since he know she will get so upset then he can't move out. Sure there might be some cultural stuff about it, but they are treating his Siblings like adults just not him.
