I know that the knight guy was Caius’s friend and training rival. He was married into a faction that opposes Caius being king. It’s also been hinted at several times during this arc that he has been helping the assassins.
As for the MP, all I know she was mentioned a couple of times, but I don’t think she has ever made a proper appearance.
The egg arc was so long because it has been literally setting groundwork for the next arc as well resolving its own story.
Okay. Apparently, the lady, MP Branni, is a member of the congress - and one of the two major leaders opposing Caius being king.
She was brought up briefly in a couple of chapters explaining why she originally helped the beastmen enter Forbal, but changed her stance when some beastmen merchants got too greedy and upended trade for a bit.
She is painted as moderate in her opposition, with her support going to the side that would benefit the country and its people more than personal gain. A stark contrast to the Congressman - who is the father-in-law of the knight btw (we see him for a frame in the latest chapter) - who opposes Caius more out of personal reasons than a sense of service to the country and its people.
