The curse is a direct consequence of the Duke’s genocide, which is completely justified. Genocide is unforgivable, no matter the reason. While the king absolutely deserves a horrible and painful death for ordering it, the Duke is still responsible for carrying it out. Instead of blindly following orders, he could have resisted, but he didn’t. That’s why he deserves to be held accountable.
