Questions I have

Hello! Yu and Souji's past relationship was only slightly touched upon in other stories but from what they told in those stories, they met at a hospital where they both got checked for their genes.

As you may know, the beastkind during their time had a decline in birthrate especially from those with good genes. Although the beastkind can procreate despite being males, their population wasn't big so there was a push to procreate and "spread their genes" so to speak.

The day that Souji met Yu at the hospital was when Yu got his results that he couldn't bear children, meanwhile Souji had dominant genes according to his results. Despite Yu's results they knew they loved each other but due to the beastkind's need to populate, Souji was inclined by his family to have the responsibility to spread his genes and mate with multiple beastkind as many as he can. Because Yu was barren, he couldn't produce children for Souji but he also can't afford to stay with Souji as he can't bear the thought that Souji will mate with others while he's in a relationship with him. So he left him, but before that, they spent one night together when Yu broke the news to Souji that they can't be together as he's barren. It's a farewell sex if you will. Although they didn't have a clean break up, they both knew the reason why Yu couldn't stay and they both accepted it at the time as they both believed that Souji had a responsibility to mate and spread his dominant genes.

They both had their own fair share of relationships through the years but unlike Yu, Souji wasn't said to have been in a romantic relationship after Yu as he only mated to populate their kind.

Would Souji have mated with others while with Yu? so Yu just left and ghosted without communication? But I also understand that he felt scared and insecure.

As I finished typing that, I see the next paragraph, you said they both knew why Yu couldn’t stay and both accepted the belief that Souji had a responsibility…so Souji let go as well because he prioritized the mating over his relationship with Yu?

If so, I feel even more bad for Yu.

With the last paragraph, Yu did have other romantic relationships? And Souji did not, but he did mate with others?

What was Souji thinking? At time, was he planning to just mate and not be in any relationship? Just spreading his seed, and that’s that? If I understood. Sorry if not . And thank you!!

In here, it says they only met a year ago so decades of not seeing each other? What was the time frame..sigh, poor Yu and Souji—driven by insecurity and wired responsibility.

For the first question, yeah the bottom is inexperienced. Not entirely sure if the Yu had a few lovers before he met Soji again. As for Soji, he did have partners since it's their duty to spread superior beastmen genes.

Second, it's old school. Like they met and hang out and each I believe develop feelings for each other but didn't voice out. They were not in any relationship before, just sex and it's one time only, like those spend one memorable night for memories and be gone the next day. Soji is from those old traditional family with strict rules that why he feels like he can't choose what or who he likes (that's why his son chose a different path )

Lastly, Yu was one of those under experiment and he was a failed one if my memory serves me right, that's why back then, he thought there's no way he and Soji's gonna be together, because of you know, Soji has a "duty". So yeah after one night of passion, he ended things by leaving Soji while he was still sleeping.

Theirs were those couples who met but can't be together even though they love each other at that time. So glad they met again and can have a happy ending.

I see in ch 4, it answered one of my question about if he mates with others. “As my duty, I’ve borne children with many beasts…”

I don’t know how to feel about that. I know it’s not likeliness though . I just hope he doesn’t think it’s his duty, I know it’s hard to let go of such but it’s off putting.

That’s crazy, duties to spread superior genes…what in the world.

And okay, the strict traditional family thing explains it all. Especially in a traditional Asian household, makes sense.

Hearing that they’ve only known each other for a short time and had sex only, I don’t feel too bad now. Whew…but of course I have sympathy.

Oh shit, I forgot he’s the father sorry I haven’t read the Kedamono series in a while. That’s sad as hell, I’m glad it’s being changed though through his son…

I hope these two live until death does apart. Main they can meet again in another lifetime when there is no such thing as impregnating duties.

Ah yes, just out of curiosity, how many children has Souji implanted in the world?

And how many years has Souji and Yu been separated?

Yeah, Souji and Yu both let go because as beastkind, they both prioritized mating over their relationship, although it definitely wasn't an easy decision for both of them. Yu was also brought up with the idea that he has a responsibility to procreate, he even had regular check ups with the hospital and underwent medication just so he can procreate, that's why he also understands the heaviness of that responsibility on Souji who had dominant genes.

They met around their early 20s or when they just became of age. Then their relationship only lasted not even for a few months iirc and it wasn't even a labeled relationship, they just knew their feelings for each other and was in some kind of situationship then they broke up and found each other again a year ago when they're in their 50s I think. Souji's already finished with mating with other beastkind as his children are all already grown adults and can spread his dominant genes instead of him. So yeah, they actually spent more years separated than together. (｡•︿•｡)

I don't think it was mentioned how many children he has, it was just mentioned that he had many but no definite number. In the story, he had three children introduced but it was said that there were more to the point that some of his children from different mothers have never even met.

They were separated for around 30ish years.

I wonder if Yu could’ve procreated, would Souji have stayed with him and had children with him only? Or would he need to have sex with others too?

But even if Yu couldn’t procreate and this timeline went on, why didn’t Souji enter a New Romantic relationship and have children like that instead of mating with others he doesn’t know (unless he did get to know them well).

Did he not crave for romance due to his separation from Yu? Then again they had only known each other for a few months.

Sorry for bunch of questions. I’m so interested in these couple lol. And yeah. The thought that these two have spent more time separated is sad, but reality. Just glad they can make up for the time lost.

When does he know when he’s done mating? I’m assuming for beast kind gene spread, there’s a certain number. If he mates often during the 30 years of separation, I assume there’s at least a hundred or less out there…could be more. Wow!

And did he need to have sex physically for the procreation to happen perfectly or was it like sperm donor?

Even if Yu could bear children, Souji would've still mated and have children with other beastkind as he needs to spread his dominant gene. For instance, the main story's ML had children with his partner but his father, Souji, still insisted that he mate and have children with other beastkind.

I don't think it was blatantly stated but Yu was Souji's first love and the only one he felt romantic feelings for so that might be why he never got into romantic relationships. Although it wasn't blatantly stated, it was heavily implied in their internal monologues. Souji is cold and distant from others and Yu was the only exception from his cold and distant demeanor and by extension the only exception for having romantic feelings. He might not have entered other romantic relationships as I remember in past stories how Souji somewhat thinks that instincts are what's important and not feelings, bcs they're beastmen, thus their romantic feelings should be set aside for their animalistic instincts to breed. That's also why he was against his children only having one mate. A part of it might be because he himself sacrificed love for breeding so he thinks other beastmen should too.

And yeah, it was a pretty tragic story. Honestly, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth how selfish Souji was during their youth and until now. The whole letting go of Yu to mate with many beastmen, and then now he still gets to have Yu, meanwhile Yu endured years of loneliness due to his decision, it just doesn't sit right with me. I wish Yu stopped loving him and have moved on, just so he'd regret leaving Yu. Or at least make his chasing arc longer and make the pinning longer. Lmao, that's just me being petty tho.

I re-read just an hour ago. Compared to ML, his father definitely seemed more stuck on the idea that he has duties and how spreading his genes is more important. I pitied him, honestly. It also didn’t 100% seem like he would sleep around with others if Yu was able to procreate. It just feels vague, if that makes sense.

Souji also seemed hurt and had never stopped thinking about him. I believe that Souji insisted his son, ML, mate with others because of some projection from being unable to take the path his son could freely. Souji, if I remember correctly, said that he was jealous his son was able to do that.

—That’s why I don’t think it’s clear if Souji would’ve slept with others if Yu were to procreate with him.

But the question comes: Maybe time and separation has made his love grow more and deeper, so if Yu and Souji were to be together and have kids without this turn of events, without that longing that Souji suffered this timeline, maybe Souji would’ve spread his seed to other beast-kind while with Yu.

I heard the more you long for someone, the more your love grows.

But I’m more on board with the idea that he would’ve learned better from Yu if Yu had not left him, and only choose him. Souji wasn’t able to hold onto his love, thus he became more lost and alone in his beliefs. That’s why I think him trying to break MC and ML apart is due to losing Yu, not only due to his belief.

2) Souji was definitely selfish. His words also gave me the ick, but I could also see why he was like that, he was nurtured to be this way. Nobody is born with such things in mind like having duties to procreate, it’s wired.

I truly felt bad for Yu the most. He smiled a lot, and cried the one time he was about to leave Souji behind because he wasn’t able to accept Souji’s belief.

If that’s being petty, everything I do is petty. It’s completely reasonable to move on from someone like that, and create a better life. It was so sad when Yu thought he can’t give Souji what Souji wanted. But I also doubt Souji wanted to, he just did it.

I also wanted Yu to move on. Even telling Souji to woo him to get him back is so lenient on Souji. Instead he should’ve gone with that other guy (the other hottie here). I didn’t like that guy at first until I read Yu and Souji’s full story. I truly think Yu deserves better…fuck.

The thought of Souji sleeping with many, prioritizing mating over forming a bond, not even looking for Yu all these years and losing himself is truly saddening. That’s why I wondered if Yu had not left, maybe he could’ve changed Souji’s mind? Just maybe.

I can’t hate either though. I do hate Souji’s choices though, and Yu running away is completely reasonable.

I’m going to make a fan fiction about this, except Yu moves on with someone else or the guy here. Not too sure, but I am definitely interested in procreating a different timeline for Yu.

Even Souji can find someone else to ride out the rest of his life with, or perhaps he’s alone forever due to his selfishness and without Yu’s kindness.

Most importantly, Yu deserves someone else. Both aren’t suitable for each other in my opinion. The hurt has gone on in silence for 30 whole years (iirc).
