you gotta remember the historical context here too. back in this period the emperor is akin to God. he is God on earth and to disrespect him by permanently "defacing" him is basically treason. ofc it's dumb to us in the modern time but back then it's the worst thing to do and not even the empress is free from punishment esp with the way his mother didn't like her. the empress doesn't have that much political power outside of her relationship to the emperor. and since he listens to his mother vs forming his own opinions he didn't fight for her or help her gain power.
Yes this is also an explanation. I just am really confused by his behaviour. I kinda think maybe he is being drugged or controlled in some way seeing his contradictory behaviour. It's also one of my hypothesis lol

I've read it till the recent chapters but still i don't get why he's angry with the empress. I really need different insights on this matter. Like they were in love then what happened that they became bitter. And what did she do that he's given decree to kill her?( i still can't believe it's for scratching his face) . Also after ordering her to die why does he keep reminiscing about pasts and try to control her? What's happening here, is he crazy? I hope she elopes with the silver hair guy. This story is kind of lacking, i mean she would have been dead by now if not for the emperor's sudden accident . He acts as if he doesn't understand the gravity of the situation . He literally left after ordering her to die then why was he chasing after a nine tailed fox to save her? Just take back your order or something?
