I agree that there were some unnecessary sacrifices but he managed to defeat the dragon after it was severely weakened to the point of trying to self destruct which meant that he could only receive attacks without even moving. Also, he used the power of Beany (that was only possible thanks to Ali's arrival).

If beating bormon just took 40 seconds for minhyuk why didn't he do that all this time? Grandpa didn't have to die, dad didn't have to lose his dragon for a month and the golden mage guy (forgot his name) didn't have to lose his power and get his stat reset to 1.
A bit disappointed nothing crazy happened. A bit anticlimactic
