People love drama, especially a love triangle one ( although some are sick of it, to others its a guilty pleasure since it gives them the thrills). I guess we can either move on too something else if triangles are a no goe, or unless you want stay due to curiosity. The choice is yours.
I guess you can say its a age old favorite trope, (despite how annoying it can be)
