Not simple once a slave always a slave
There’s no story I’ve read where a slave can’t stop being a slave. And one of the first things the ML asked her is if she wanted him to free her so she’s no longer a slave and she refused. He’ll have to do it at some point since it’s illegal for someone to be romantically involved with a slave in their world
Ya....maybe he will rebel so he can change the laws
Simple solution: remove her slave status, marry her. Voila.
