he was trying to protect valerie if i am not wrong as the boss is total nutcase who murdered his parents and also valerie if i am not wrong so he was actually trying to protect him from that nutcase so he beat him out which he immensely regretted. as he had no choice cause he was afraid that nutcase would kill valerie so he beat him out then later valerie and alexei became like strangers its basically for valerie who doesn't know why he did it but later he explains and tell him the truth in upcoming chapter.
Also I gotta see the flashbacks now of the time he almost beat him to death. WHAT WAS THE REASON?!!!
