I think people need to know that Ash does apologize in the novel.


Spoiler for the novel

. Ash whispers to Karlyle as he hugs him.
"I'm sorry, too. I should have explained things when Hazel came up. I'm sure I could have said something, but I made the wrong decision. Will you forgive me?"
Karlyle nods continuously. He rubs his nose against Ash's neck like a spoiled child, then answers.
"It's not Ash's fault. It's because I listened to what other people said and judged you unfairly....I promise I'll never do such a thing again."
Ash's strong arms hold Karlyle so tightly that it hurts, but reluctantly, he steps back and holds him at arm's length. Ruffling Karlyle's hair, Ash says.
"This is our first fight, right?"
Karlyle reflects on the word "fight". When he was in that situation, he thought he was the most unhappy person in the world. But now that the conflict has been resolved, he feels so much lighter. All the mess inside him has been washed away.
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay. I'm glad that Lyle has opened up to me that much. As human beings, relationships can't always be perfect."
The hand that is brushing his hair moves to his cheek. Ash's fingertips touch the corner of his eye.
"Lyle, you can get angry as much as you want, I don't mind it at all. I just don't want you to hide it. If you need time, I'll give you time. But please don't misunderstand me alone without asking me about it first, okay?"
