
I agree it's pretty realistic but I feel like the only difference it has with typical BL is that the bottom has backbone and isn't a total pushover. Other than that it's pretty typical. Writing compelling and realistic characters has everything to do with your skill as an author and little to do with gender.

Probably. But I can see this dynamic working with all types of couples, be they straight, lesbian, or gay. Pairing someone who's (probably unintentionally) callous and doesn't feel the need to reassure their partner with someone anxious and inexperienced then adding exes and rumors to the mix will probably get you the same outcome no matter the relationship. Someone will get hurt and someone will be completely clueless. Probably a breakup too if the person being hurt has backbone. I didn't mean to argue though just adding my 2 cents because I've read so many realistic BLs by women and I feel they deserve credit.
This feels different from most BLs, it's most likely because the author is a male lmao, everything about this feels realistic
