Ok rant time- this trope pisses me off sometimes. Authors will imply literally not a single time that a person likes another character, in this case blonde dude, and then will suddenly put dialogue that SAYS oh I’ve liked you this whole time. Like that’s not how good storytelling works, you can’t just suddenly put that line in and expect the reader to just be chill with it now when you have done nothing to show that. Kinda like how JK Rowling just said Dumbledore was gay and Hermione was black the whole time.
This blonde guy clearly didn’t like him in the beginning, and had multiple girlfriends. The way the story treated the blonde guy made sense in the beginning, he was angry that the mc kept getting his girlfriend’s attention. There were ZERO hints that he felt literally anything else towards the mc. I thought the sudden change in heart would at least have some type of explanation like, “oh I thought you were awful but then I found out you weren’t so bad” IDK ANYTHING BUT NAH, he just liked him the whole time and completely didn’t show it. Rather than disliking him, it just feels like bad character writing on the author’s part.
This isn’t the only series this happens in btw, this is just one example. Like lowkey “Why Are You So Kind To Everyone Except Me?” Has this too, but it’s got a lot of other bigger issues. ANYWAY RANT OVER
Wait what? He just liked him this whole time?
