He initially gets married to her because of that. But grows to love her for her honesty & sincerity.
The twisted background that will be mentioned later on is just another level. Our ml is originally a Duke from the empire. The saintess travels from earth to their world & a lot of things happen in between.
Eventually, she misses earth & tricks the ml into following her to earth. You see, the empire only has 2 known esper (crown prince & the Duke, who is the ml) But no guide. So the saintess becomes a saintess because she has guiding powers. Saintess lies & tells them about how she can bring numerous guides from earth to the empire if only the Duke (ml) comes with her to earth. He does & then realises that she won't travel back anymore.
Ml (who was originally) a Duke of another world (in an empire), is now an indentured labourer under the Korean govt. He is forced to enter the worst dungeons without the right to refuse. He was almost forcefully bonded with the saintess but their compatibility is below 20% if I recall correctly.
The Korean govt. kept bringing in guide after guide to bond them with the ml, so that he would be obedient. It would make it easier to control him if his bonded was a Korean citizen & he'd obey orders just to protect his guide. One of the guides introduced was our female mc (she was from the defence or military, a special agent I think).
Now you can understand, why our ml acted the way he did. He didn't trust her 1 bit.
Moreover, despite all that, the female mc never once tried to understand where he was from. Who he really was? Why he was always so paranoid & angry? Can you actually claim to love someone if you don't know any of this?! I don't think so.
And why was she so naive & oblivious? I think military attracts a lot of people but naive & oblivious would never work. The female mc had simply assumed he was a foreigner. (⊙…⊙ )So, she never even tried to find out about him. Who his family was? Which country he was from? Didnt try to find out anything. Her justification was that he would not answer her, when she asked. There are other ways to find out information for the highly motivated!!! It doesn't always have to 1st hand info. He was from another dimension for goodness sake! She acted like she lived in isolation. She was a special agent. She should have had contacts of some kind. But zilch!
Her so-called love was like a school girl who was crazy about a k-pop idol & eventually married them. She remained star-struck & never tried to treat her husband as a human being in the 1st place. Like I'm so fucking angry that someone like this decided to get married. Her husband suffered his entire time in Korea & she never even know or noticed. What a partner she was!
And as if that wasn't enough misery on its own, in this life (2nd life), the female mc will have the ml groveling like a worm. She won't forgive him but will continue to mentally torture him for many chapters to come.
I was in so much discomfort reading about a
grown men groveling, crying pathetically on his knees for a woman who didn't deserve it! I could understand the whole process if she truly suffered & if he truly had committed a crime. But in truth, he suffered & she lived obliviously in both lifetimes expecting payment from a person just because she loved them. Love is not license for expectations. True love is sacrifice & suffering. This female mc certainly didn't know how to love.
It's just me again, if the circumstances were different, the emotions & characters could be lighter. But one could literally read the desperation & helplessness of the ml in every line of this story.
This is not the story of a strong ml like in most shoujo mangas. He is not the strong northern duke. This is the story of a sad man taken away from his entire world, to be distrusted & given half-baked love by the partner who claimed to love him. So yeah, I felt very sorry for him. For he was a very lonely person. Which is ironic because the female mc claimed he made her so lonely. She had friends who spoke her language, her colleagues who spoke her language, she was living in her own planet & everything she knew since she was a child

Exactly I was also left asking that question after I read the novel. Like there were scenes where you could tell that he was making love to her so tenderly. Idk if she is a robot who is incapable of understanding non-verbal language but I was so exasperated.
His biggest mistake was he never voiced out his emotions. But I bet his doubts about her could never go away because she also never voiced hers.

You speak my mind, exactly what I dislike about the mc! In typical stories like this the mc would move heaven and earth for a scumbag ml only to be betrayed which makes the future kneeling, groveling, and crying of the ml satisfying, but here I don't see that.
She's just an obsessive, selfish girl who expected to be loved without doing the bare minimum. I don't even know what she did for him to make him love her (except, well, yeah, her death) but like you said, no one forced her to do that.
And when the kneeling, groveling crying part came, I cannot even get into it because bc of how she keep resisting him but her face looks like she wants him badly. The contradiction pisses me off bc she remind me of a typical evil heroine in japanese isekai trying to play the victim just to make the villainess mc looks bad.

The energy they give to the object of their affection isn't reciprocated. Ik she could've just divorced but then again, their esper guide match was the highest so is it really possible for her to get it immediately?
Oh well, I think they both got issues anyway. If they were able to work on those issues first & if only they're able to meet under different circumstances (and different outlooks in life) i guess it's possible for a normal relationship to bloom.
I think you are right in a way. For me, I felt "narcissist" from this female mc. She is the type of person who will only ever recognise her own pain, suffering & point of view. She lacks the emotional capacity to recognise other peoples' feelings
Never really thought about it but now that you point it out, it makes sense. Both have their own shortcomings and flaws, yet because the current story is told from FL's perspective since the get-go, readers have formed and solidified their opinions that the duke is an a-hole, even tho he's also a victim in this story.

I've like read some parts of the novel, so my opinions may completely differ from everyone else.
I'm a woman myself but I find it extremely hard to sympathise with the female mc in many of the cases.
In the previous life they had, the ml was a typical non-communicative type. You know, the beautiful, the silent & the angry type. Our female mc knew this fully. She was the one who became obssessed with him & jumped into a marriage with him, when he proposed.
What was she expecting? For him to suddenly change(⊙…⊙ ) She willingly volunteered to be his guide & his wife. No she's not a minor. She was a fully consenting adult. But he wasn't showing emotions as she expected or affections like she expected, she shouted "foul!" ヽ(`Д´)ﾉ
Wth! The ml was very obviously a broken person with so many personality problems & if she truly loved him, she should've communicated better or handled things better. Or just avoided the fuck out of this psychotic ml. But she had romantic airy dreams!
She could've divorced the ml anytime! She stays! And then, blames him for staying. She eventually dies while guiding him, he had lost control during of the dungeon raids. When he finally comes back to consciousness, he notices his wife melted & burned to death in his arms. His grief consumes him, his power goes out of control again & eventually burns him. And this is how they die, in flames!
And the funny thing is, he never asked her to sacrifice herself. She did it all on her own! And she blames him after she reincarnated for dying for him. She was even told to stay back by other hunters as her husband was burning himself to death in their previous life. She stubbornly refused & went to him. You can't blame someone else for how much you love them!
This manga is basically about a petulant, self-righteous reincarnation of the mc, where she pretends to be a young teenage girl. It is just so repugnant & repulsive to me #－.－). The whole manga is literally about that!
And no I'm not supporting the ml. Anyone reading this manga can tell he's a bit broken. Broken things are broken for a reason. He's a bit psychotic even. Obsessive also. And for some reason, our female mc blamed everything on this ml. Like it doesn't take 2 to tango? She's oblivious as fuck & takes no blame for their marriage. I hate her so much because of this. I have seen some of my family members getting divorced & I've also witnessed both sides blaming the other side fully. Its disgusting! Marriage always fails because both parties failed! Not one!
Her pretense doesn't end here. This will go on for some time. He will keep trying to find his wife. And she will keep pretending to be a young teenage Noble girl (⊙…⊙ )
At this point, I just wanted a beautiful & strong guide to come save this stupid ml. Broken people like him, once they're in with someone, they never come out. That's not the case for emotionally well-adjusted ppl. like our mc. There will be many male espers vying for the attention of our female mc just fyi #－.－)
The whole manga is just about a woman teaching a lesson to a man for not giving her the attention she wanted.
And I say this, because there will be many stories which will emerge later on, where they had shared so much intimacies & moments in their previous life, but the female mc will be oblivious to all of them. You will not find a more desperate ml clinging to the female mc in both lives. I just feel sorry for the ml.
