She does run away but ML thought she died and years passed, ML goes crazy from what I remember

Horrible thought that their baby would’ve probably survived but the step mom more or less killed them.
I like what mellie said to her at the end of the novel. Mellie had a child, they met MIL and MIL seemed sad that the child doesn’t know her and that she won’t be allowed to see her grandchild. Mellie tells her something along the lines of “he wouldn’t be alive because of you if I’d stayed”
