He treats him mostly like a normal person, which for Ilay who is aware and does not care that he's treated like a monster... that's interesting. It's a novel experience to have a "normal" relationship of any kind with someone.

The novel does a better job of explaining but basically Taeui has a weird moral compass? Everyone else in the story hates ilay bc objectively he does bad things (murder, rape, etc)—things ilay views as necessary for his survival or aren’t a big deal bc he puts himself first. Taeui is seemingly the first person not to automatically dislike or hate him, bc he’s aware ilay isn’t a good person, but he hasn’t done anything bad to him (in the beginning) or the people he cares about, so there’s a sense of detachment there. Taeui also does things that interest ilay (he pressed a gun up to his neck, which at first made ilay angry and disinterested in Taeui, until he realized it was an empty gun—which is dumb asf but I think the reasoning is that Taeui knows it’s futile going up against ilay even with a weapon, but he knew the risks when defending the guy ilay was about to kill). Plus a short interaction in their childhood… and ilay being drawn to Taeui’s reactions

Oh and for Xinlu, I think he could feel in the beginning that Taeui is a good person… but he’s a naturally selfish person so there’s need to dominate him overrode any healthy feelings he could possible have towards Taeui, which got worse when he realized Ilay was starting to like Tae

Xinlu said that he was only interested in tay at first because he was the lucky charm of the young genius Jeong Jay but came to like him truly

True but Xinlu is more interested due to his competitiveness with ilay, like “he stole something I want.”

I do think Xinlu likes him but not that alone.

Yeah that’s true too and in the novel, after he kidnapped tay and brought him hin to a hotel, tay told him(xinlu) that he didn’t really like him but xinly insisted it but tay said it again and that what he truly want is to see ilay suffer and he succeeded. After that, he let go of tay for good.

Ugggggghh u just love talking to people who read the same novel as i did regardless of what story it is. It’s just that there’s something about reading the novel to reading the manhwa. It’s more detailed and expressive

You get me’!! Novels are so much better for me. We can imagine the scenes too without being disappointed etc. I usually read Danmei novels and I’ve just picked up on reading Possessing The Obsessive Maniac’s Cotton Doll.
