i think the idea is the characters get stuck in this mind set of fate... like they know what is suppose to happen and when it changes its like cheating the characters out of their fate.... what they often fail to understand is them entering the the story is also fate thus anything that happened is meant to. or thats how i interoperate this trope

I never understood the whole 'keep the original storyline from diverging', if you're already there, the whole storyline is already fucked up sweetie, fuck it more.
