So I tried searching online for explanations or discourse on this.

I couldn't find anything. I did find a wikipedia page about murder of Ryōta Uemura in 2015. I don't know if that ties into the story in anyway. But yikes, there are more vicious murders by youths than I imagined there would be in this world. I know empathy has to be taught, but it's quite scary. Plus, even if you try to teach empathy, some kids might not care or understand and then what can you do?? I really don't want kids, that's too much responsibility towards raising them to deal with society, and responsibility towards the rest of society that will have to deal with them.

There was a case where a girl (like 12/13) killed her classmates and it was said that it's one of the reason the age of accountability in Japan was reduced to 13. Meaning anyone over the age of 1e can be jailed for murder and the like.

You can tried looking for Nevada-chan murder case if you want to know more.
