Alphonse is a woman as far as I can tell. I can’t say for certain if the translation of the name is a mistake or not, but it’s very likely since “Alphonse” is and always has been a masculine name (meaning it’s given to men).
I also thought until there is a scene in the novel that some maids are attracted to Alphonse and also this is a spoiler...
there is a part that a certain knight captain? general? I think thought that his wife is in relationship with Alphonse when its not.. ╮(￣▽￣)╭ its actually the MC uncle who his wife in relationship with..
It’s not unusual for these webtoons to go off-course of the novels’ contents, so whatever you read in the novel about some of those things probably won’t happen in this manhwa. Most often, things that don’t really have anything to do with the main character gets skipped over or changed, which makes the novel readers confused if not upset about it. And even when details that are important in the novel get skipped over, it’s mainly due to the fact the artist of the manhwa (or just webtoons in general) doesn’t want to or can’t afford to take the extra time and effort to depict the necessary and or related scenes.
So, in the end, I would say just treat this story and the novel as two separate but similar entities until the truth is revealed. (●'◡'●)ﾉ
ikr.. thats why it get me confuse . . because on the manhwa.. alphonse somehow have chest?? boobs?? (⊙…⊙ ) I mean... its really not unusual for the manhwa to deviate to the novel its just that weird feeling that you are reading same story same character same author but the manhwa version make you choke eating sweet potato .. but I mean its still good after all as you said you can think its a separate but similar entities.. (●'◡'●)ﾉ but i still bitter how they remove the part where the mc communicate to Geoffrey just to make it dramatic （￣へ￣）

Im reading the novel and the manhwa got me confuse a bit.. In the novel Mc didnt say she wants to be a merchant .. she is reading or get a book about being merchant and Geoffrey saw it and also she didnt run away after saying she like Geoffrey.. they communicate.. she explain and put Geoffrey mind at ease.. yep.. Our Mc know that communication is the key.. and Alphonse if a Male.. and also this is still like a rip off of the manhwa " i'll be the matriarch in this life" ╮(￣▽￣)╭ but its not that bad..Geoffrey have lost everything and only living for revenge without anyone helping him.. so its understandable why he is like that.. I like how he go to his wife and daughter grave and inform them he will adopt the MC.. consent! consent! He so lovable .. ╥﹏╥
