Heyo tbf, the audience for this story mostly came from bj Alex or whatever it’s called (Because it’s literally the exact same story lol) and while that relationship is still toxic it’s nowhere near this level of clear toxicity and rape, adding to that the story was better at showing backstories and creating sympathy for the main love interest dude. So basically a bunch of people from the mildly toxic side of bl got shoved into painter of the night esque content and are expressing their dislike of the toxic couple as from my experience a fair amount of people who read bj Alex weren't super fans of the super toxic abusive shit and more into the fluffy to mildly toxic side (while not all ofc ik there’s overlap)
It’s just different audiences it’s really that simple, painter of the night had an audience who knew what they were getting into jinx didn’t. Especially if you take into account how the author talked about everything like based on the authors comments you wouldn’t expect this amount of toxic TvT

I kinda agree! Why continue reading if you hate J so much and complain weekly? I’ve dropped so many mangas etc for whatever reason (story line, art style, translation etc).

I would love it if the ending was where Dan fully left and lived his own life while J is depressed af, single etc but we all know how these stories usually end up going~~!

BUT YEAH I’D LOVE TO SEE THAT OMGGGGG. Also, yeah, him rejecting J. was so damn satisfying. I actually couldn’t stand Dan cause he was such a pushover but now, those last chapters are satisfying. I wish he’d leave him at the end of the story but we all know it will end up being super cliché. But yeah, I can still dream haha.

Tbf, I clearly remember the author saying how her new project would be much more toxic than her previous one and she didn’t know if people would like it as much as bj Alex. And when you really look into the story, it’s really the same plot. There’s the asshole and the pushover, the asshole uses the pushover for sex, then the pushover gets sad and don’t want to have sex anymore, and the asshole realized he’s in love cause he can’t have sex anymore, so then there’s a flashback to explain why the asshole is an asshole and after the flashback, the asshole became super nice and sweet and is super in love so obviously the pushover is in love too and they became super lovey dovey with a happy ever after ending. The only difference is that Jaekyung is a bit more selfish and Kim is more miserable so that’s why it’s more toxic, but the whole story is the same thing.

I love that wording, but yeah I completely agree the plot is basically the same and even the character design down to the general idea of small feminine bottom with light brown hair and model buff too with black hair. While I get authors sometimes want to make similar stories or not leave their comfort zone I feel the author could step out of their comfort zone, like even side story for BJ Alex was more distinct than Jix is from BJ Alex. And also not only is it a pushover and an asshole it’s literally the same story beat of asshole ‘needs’ the pushover for their mojo and that’s the reason for all the sex scenes.

Sooooo many of you are hating on Jaekyung saying how he’s not redeemable and saying how there is no character development even after 60 chapters. But painter of the night was exactly the same, and yet everyone loved Seungho (and he was definitely worse than Jaekyung). Also, everyone called the story a masterpiece even though there was also no character development even after the 60th chapter. So yeah, I can’t wait to see y’all being big hypocrites at the end of this shitty story and call Jaekyung a green flag, cause we all know where the story is heading even if yall don’t want to accept it. The second he’ll act just a little bit nice, you will all forget, forgive, and fangirl (just like Kim). So yeah, stop saying he’s not redeemable when all he has to do to convince yall is to act just like he did when he was drunk (but without the alcohol). Mark my words
