you have to have a certian amount of money not tied up in anythig to run a buisness. if they don't have any on hand money any accident or bad weather could cause them to go into debt again. and if they have enough money they can use most of it to make more money wich they could use to help even more people. also just becuase two of her mind you old servants didn't leave when they couldn't pay doesn't mean it is ok to not pay your workers. the only issue with her having a lot of money is that she didn't seem to be doing anything with most of it.
If her brother was only resposible for himself I think his actions would be perfectly fine commendable even. but he is reasponsible to the workers he hired and if he is a lord over people any one he is over. It is irresponsible to give away all your money when you have people to look at and Ideally to grow.

She was taking bribes and saying " well other rich ppl do it too." Those bribes aren't free, something else is expected back and I don't think she put any thought into it which could put everyone in a shitty situation.

I see your point, but although she called them bribes she was treating them like gifts. it is highly unlikely that anyone could force her to do anything wrong with a bribe anyway as they would have to admit they were bribing her. they were likely called gifts in the letter but with a hope of futer relationship so she is free to treat them as gifts. gifts arn't wrong
Idk why most are blaming brother. He does need to work on his nativity but MC needs to work on her greed. She still wanted to take money that was donated until she was faced with the orphans. Sure you're poor, but you have a mansion with servants that didn't want to leave. She has more ways to gain resources.
