I believe it’s the way he‘s aware of the elephant in the room (at least I think he is?), as he knows about his friends mentioning hazel with lyle there as well, yet he still „acts“ oblivious towards lyle??? But I’m not sure ;;; he’s also giving him some kind of illusion that lyle can always talk to him about everything- but he isn’t addressing the hazel thing as he should?

Well it’s not just the recent chapters lol. If you go back to even the beginning, ash always does weird stuff and then says stuff to make lyle trust him again. Like in one of the last chapters he says “that wasn’t me last night, you have to believe me”
He’s one those people who acts all nice and innocent so he can get away with stuff lmao
