I read the book and the Grandfather is not really like how he is here. When the Ml was saved when he was 13 years old, his Grandfather gave him two chooses. Stay and deal with the pain that his mother is putting him through. Also deal with the family and inherent the family business. Second option was to move over seas and he could live a carefree life. Get away from the pain that his family will bring upon him. Be free and forget about everything.
His Grandfather does beat him but it's usually for the stupid stuff he does. Like before the story even starts he was caught street racing. So that first day they meet in school he' is covered in bruises. Not the face but the body. Taking the plane he got beat for that.
His grandfather in the books was more annoyed that he was not taking things seriously. He set up classes for him to learn to be better for when he takes over the business but he doesn't go. In the books the mother takes on a cousin of Ml and is wanting him to take over the business. Grandfather is more like you want him to inherent instead of you. I don't remember if the Grandfather brought up his red hair at all or the way he looked, but I do remember it of the mother.
Just like the manga the the grandfather is seeing the change in him that this girl is bring about so he starts to like her. He become not so lecturing any more.
Oh yeah. I'm not saying it's right that the Grandfather beats ML but if you read Chinese novels. IT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. If you do something bad then you got to get beat with the family beating board/stick. Spend the night bowing in the ancestors hall, praying for forgiveness.
So let me get this straight. That grandfather blamed ml, when he was just a little child for the deaths of ml's father and brother but now he feels guilty.?
