I think the biggest reason is bc ML looks like his best friend so MC is blinded by nostalgia.
Also probably the only person he knows irl and has a good relationship.

how did mc even end up "falling in love"?!? ML didn't really do anything applaud-worthy. if anything, he's your usual possessive asshole, who was evidenly an even bigger asshole in their alternate life or whatever... so did I miss something?! or maybe I should just not stop expecting a logical development from yaoi lol
