That girl pissed me off. I thought she was a nice and understanding person, but she was the opposite. They love each other, let them be! This is in a way a really sad story but I'm happy that they could have a happy ending!

You and me both! She was a selfish, conniving little (c word). She didn't sacrifice anything, she MOLDED him. Everything she did, she did for her own benefit without a single thought spared for his feelings or wishes.

Another thing that bothered me about this story, they were in Norway, right? The progressive capital of the planet. Yet they were concerned over two men walking close or kissing on the street as if it were Japan or Saudi Arabia! Gay rights ORIGINATED in Norway. Or maybe it was Sweden? Either way, Norway is a highly progressive, first world, Western culture. Homosexuality is not frowned upon. In fact, the doctor's fear and the bitch's shaming would have been far more looked down upon than two men holding hands or kissing. The mangaka really got it wrong on this point.

completely agree. But I guess that since they lived in japan all their lives, past habits and traditional customs just come to surface even when you live in such a progressive country. It takes time to get rid of convention. Not saying all of japan is homophobic, it is very progressive in its media and its people (or perhaps, its the idea of skinship that was problem. Not necessarily homophobia. ). So I'm guessing it is the village they lived in. Clearly, the girl said some homophobic stuff and the rumours spread like wildfire.

Ikr, I didn;t like her. Normally, I would understand but She said some degrading, homophobic stuff. Just because she lost her lover, doesn't give her a gateway to prejudice and discrimination.

Oh no, sorry, but Japan is only technologically progressive. Beyond that, they are still mired in the samurai age. In January of 2019 they upheld a law that requires all trans people to submit for sterilization if they wish to change their gender on official forms. Basically, it is the old "eugenics" solution to "bad genetics". If they can't procreate, the number of trans people will be fewer in the future. This is how in the dark Japan is about topics like homosexuality and transgenderism. And just try to bring in LGBTQ information from outside Japan. LOL You will be deported faster than you can say "Doumo Arigatou." Homosexuality is, at best, seen as a fetish - like cosplay and cat ears - and, at worst, as an abomination best destroyed. Tokyo sees a lot of gaijin. So, they tend to be a little more forgiving there, but any other city, town or village still believe that homosexuality is something that can be overcome with fear, degradation and personal willpower to remain closeted. Granted, it isn't a crime to be homosexual in Japan, but it sure as hell ain't a benefit or even accepted either. Mild tolerance in the form of being utterly ignored is the best you can hope for outside of Tokyo.

Now, in regards to the girl in this manga... I have spent 40+ years as close friends and sisters with many, many gay men. And I have witnessed too many hetero women react this way when they find out that a man they were eyeing turned out to be gay. The vile hatred and scathing homophobia was palpable in the air. It could make your skin crawl. Their ego was wounded and their pride was bruised. So, to save a little face, they take out their frustrations on every gay man in earshot. Which is why I really despise chicks like her.
