I think it's quite relatable and understandable to hate cops after experiencing that. Even though he acted aggressively homophobic, his peers still shunned him without realising it.
In his eyes all cops are judgemental. And the cop space so to speak felt dangerous and uncomfortable for him. Also, for him their actions led to him not realising his dream of becoming a detective.
The backstory doesn't really explain his hate for cops? Like yeah, it was kinda related but I don't feel like it fit into his trauma well.
