I have a feeling the author isn't exactly trying to go anywhere with the story but rather showing snippets of their daily lives hence it's very slowly moving forward. It's more marketable if it's ongoing for a long time. Merch is easier to sell this way too. (Have you seen those artbooks? Gorgeous! I want to buy them.)
