Most people in a situation like this right after being in a car accident and then having people try to break into your car with bats and crowbar aren't going to immediately think, "let me sit here and wait for them to break through my windshield while I'm on the phone." They're gonna have an oh shit moment and try to get away! Also, what good would staying there have been whether or not he had a weapon? There were 4-5 guys against him, he wasn't gonna win regardless.

Given everything we know about Brett and how influential his family is, its also unlikely his phone doesn't already have a tracker in it.

but the bodyguard/secretary(?) guy does come and picks Brett up so he had to know where he was. He's also probably like at least an hour away from his own house since he was driving back from Hayden's parent's place so no immediately rescues either. But this was probably all part of Brett's plan cuz he knew about people lurking around his house when he called the detective before. Its probably why he chose to go back alone rather than with Hayden cuz he knew something was gonna happen.
