The problem with BL today

I get where they were trying to go with the story, however I think that the artist may have rushed it, if developed properly (e.g giving the characters a more lengthy/we'll explained background or expanding on their personalities) this could have been a good if not great slow burn story.

I feel as if the artist perhaps tried to fit too much plot into their already predetermined porn narrative. This is a prime example of what happens when you give the porn-without-plot story a well thought out plot, it's messy and all over the place. We never got to understand why the characters did what they did.

Again, I'd like to reiterate that the general direction of the story has so much potential, but the need for a quick fetishised story is too great amoung bl manga because artists want to appeal more to the "girlies who think gay men are hot" due to the fact that it gives them A. more recognition and B. the ability to get to a point where they can create stories while still remaining relevant. I would like to draw attention to the fact that this is the livelihood of a lot of struggling artists, so the fast views make sense.

While I do not condone the use of rape as a driving force in a story, I do think that a lot of artists fall into the trap because that's what puts Food on the table.

So, to conclude, to all the struggling artists out there who find yourselves in a corner and end up going with what makes you popular, go for it, but once you get popular please take a moment to think about whether these are the type of stories you want to create.

*I would also like to add that this artist is already popular, and this narrative is often pushed in their stories
