I honestly don't know about those concepts you're talking about but I could resolve your concern by saying that this was not written by a Japanese person, nor Korean, nor Asian. And I'm pretty sure that the author didn't actually search about some topics. Just in case, it's not shade, i just think it's a fact. I think he wanted to have this "Asian/Japanese vibes" but set everything else in the context of his own country.
I like this story but i find it unrealistic how a japanese family is fighting in front of a quest since japanese people are infamous with their non confrontational culture expecially the whole tatemae thing. Like they would never talk about feelings on a dinner table with the family.
