Honestly, there's no mention of what really happened to cliff. It's all speculation. I even thought he went mad and did the unthinkable.

The og lize returned back to her body. She's just accepting her reality and responsibility now that the author is gone from her body. Since the world didn't went on a loop and the restrictions were gone, they all are now free. But the og main characters (lize and cliff) couldn't help but be withdrawn/helpless (?) since their "main characters' plot armor" is gone. They're subjected now to reality and that the world doesn't revolve around them.

It's pretty devastating and i feel sorry for them. They were strongly bound to their main characters statuses .
