i really like the zombie theme this story has. Having the whole "zombies eat you and bites infect you" gets really old quickly.
I'm betting that the original owners of the town were apart of some scientific research for immortality (more likely investors in this than actual researchers). Maybe Guwon was a successful test subject. They spread the virus that made people revive again and caused those explosions/doomsday events to potentially find more people like Guwon but it seemingly backfired.
Guwons obsession with usefulness probably stems from something a researcher probably told him to brainwash him.
