while i do agree with majority of what ur saying, i believe he can be self sacrificing and naive at the same time. he's naive in the sense that he's quite inexperienced with social interactions. he is far from dumb, but when it comes to people, he can be pretty easy to influence to a deep level
Haruki isnt dumb or naive? He just has a self sacrificing personality. He would rather be hurt than let others be hurt so ofc he is going to attract a lot of bad ppl. While it is tragic that this means he may not get character development this dosent mean its impossible. A good way for his character to evolve is for him to see how this personality trait will/can affect those he cares about. Once a self sacrificing character sees that what they are doing is more harm to others thatn good it can change him. But this could also back fire and turn into something dangerous. Either way the story will have a repetitive nature and will be that way till later on. Character development wont happen so soon because haruki DOES see how destructive he is but is choosing to be that way to keep others safe.
