My headcanon ending is that jinshi either disowns himself (tho hopefully not this) or simply vacated his position, retired in the province or somewherr near the capital or near ah dou, where they both busy themselves everyday with the appthacary that they run, constantly running around healing the sick or smth, ocassionaly going back to the palace or verdigris, and retiring back into their house/ apothecary very much fulfilled
We are in vol 14 (English translation) and they kinda just became official but only people close to them know, and aren’t lovey-dovey like we see in other shoujo mangas. They kinda act the same. And they are still in the palace Maomao is stuck in between other people’s love conundrums at the moment

Ooh have you finished vol 5? Cause there will be some action at the end of that vol! And wait till end of Vol 8, that’s my favourite part. There is slight flirting here and there at the end of the novels (always the end, as the romance isn’t the main focus). I think there just wasn’t any at the end of vol 6 if I remember correctly, as that vol focused on another blossoming romance towards the end.
I just finished vol 5 and now alr at vol 6. WAS LITERALLY SCREAMING DIED DEAD DECEASED AT THE END! MAO MAO U FOX! And didnt helped that the next chapter (prologue) was hilarious af, poor innocent basen. But was majorly giggling at the end cos of the accessory. It was so lowkey but it made me kilig just knowing what it means
Ngl it shookt me who the side couple was cos i wasnt expecting that. But nonetheless im excited for them!
Maybe the endgame will be both of them gaining their freedom from the palace that bounds them and live a normal life outside. Because its kind of impossible for them to get married and for Jinshi he doesn't want to come out as a member of the royal family unless there are no other male descendants. I just want them to be happy, free and heal from the trauma they're carrying.
