I only read the last chapters of the novel so i don't know all of the novel. The novel ends with Rey being the emperor again of strass. Since both of them are emperors now, theyre both busy and has their own lives. They meet up, Jiskar congratulated Rey, they cached up with each other and had sex. Rey told Jiskar about his empress which made jiskar sad. Jiskar said after he passed the throne he will become Rey's concubine (i don't that will happen though)And years after levnoad's death, a treaty was made again between El pasher and Strass with the two emperos- Rey and Jiskar.

I kinda understand why the manhwa eneded this way. The ending in the novel wasn't a good ending but i wasn't bad either. Atleast in the manhwa they didn't get separated
