Well to be fair, his knightly duties was more of a a town head. Remember how the guy at the start was practically as useful as a wet noodle so kay had to handle shit around everywhere? And it seems he was always cooped up in that area for a majority of his knight life. Plus when we first see the zombies, he also remarks that it’s his first time seeing one. So i guess in a way, he that one dude with a desk job that’s on the field for the first time. Well at least that’s about how much i can rationalize it
i also think that before, but i remember the place he works as a knight it was a peaceful town and rarely needs a knights to fight monsters etc. i think knights there are only needed to guard the mansion or escort the baron family member
