I think it's miss communication between tranlator and typesetter, double stars before and after word is supposed to make it bold but i think the typesetter is new and doesn't know about it
And since this scan roots for swiftness instead of quality, they don't even have a proper proofreader.
why was there so **many** damn **stars** in the last half of the **latest** chapter
